Abstract

ABSTRACT                                              Cigarette smoke has been a seriously pollutan. A population that very vulnerable to cigarette smoke are the children, because they inhale air more often than adults. Many studies showed that the children under five years who stay with family members smoking in their house is riskier suffer Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI). The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between knowledge, education, employment and exposed of information to the patriarch of smoker compared with the patriarch of non smoker in Karangharja Village.Cross sectional research was conducted in April until June 2015. The data was collected in questionnaires for the patriarch who has children under five that recorded as ARI patients in January to December 2014. Statistical analysis was performed with Chi square test and logistic regression.Bivariate analysis results showed that there were significant differences between education, employment and exposed of information to the the patriarch of smoker (p<0,05); exception knowledge (p>0,05). Multivariable analysis results indicated that there were no significant differences between education, employment and knowledge (p>0,05); but there was a significant differences between an exposed of information (p>0,05) to the patriarch of smoker compared with the patriarch of non smoker in Karangharja Village.Conclusions: there are a correlation between the exposed of information to the patriarch of smoker compared with the patriarch of non smoker in Karangharja Village; so that health workers expected to improving behavior parents against ARI through the provision of information that effective to reduce the impact of cigarettes, expected to be further investigation to investigate another variable that may associated with smoking to the patriarch who has children under five with ARI in the Karangharja Village. Keywords : ARI in children under five years, determinant factors, patriarch of smoker.
